As we know, the tourism industry in an important part of every countrys economy. It is not only for the growth and development of the country but also for the promotion of the culture of different countries to the entire world. The tourism industry of Australia makes a huge contribution to the exports earnings of the country. The tourism industry of Australia helps the country to bring foreign direct investment in the country. Most of the cities in Australia are based on the tourism as they contribute to the monthly income of the people of those particular places. In this way, we can understand the importance and relevance of tourism industry. There are many types of challenges faced by the Australian tourism industry that we will discuss in this report. The Australian Tourism Industry There tourism industry of Australia is playing a major role in earning of exports for the country. The main motive of The Australian tourism industry is not only to attract more and more tourist to the country but also to increase the expenses that are injected into the goods of Australia that are purchased by the tourists. They try to attract more international travelers to sale their exports goods and services to the foreigners. In Australia there is a significant contribution has made by the tourist industry and the tourist as well (Jennings, 2001). As we know that if a country tourism sector is healthy then it will contributes in the social and economic welfare of the country like Australia. In the financial year 2014- 2015, the tourism sector has represented 3.0% of the total Australias GDP that means almost A$ 47.5 billion to the national financial system of country. It is not only for the enlargement and development of the country but also for the encouragement of the way of life of different countries to the entire world (Weaver, and Oppermann, 2000). The tourism business of Australia makes an enormous contribution to the exports income of the country. The tourism industry of Australia helps the country to bring foreign direct investment in the country. There is not only international tourism sector; there is also a domestic tourism that contributed 73% of the total GDP of the direct tourism. In this way, we can identify the relevance of tourism industry in a country like Australia (Haden, 2012). Challenges faced by the australian tourism industry In the recent and past years, the Australian tourism industry is facing many types of ups and downs that reflects many factors that creates a direct and indirect impact on the Australian tourism industry. some of the major reasons for the downfalls are the exchanges rate is very high these days, the key export markets are facing subdued economic problems and issues, a slower pace of the development and growth in spending the domestic and national households, and the major reason is that in 2012, there was a down turn in the travel business (Riley, and Love, 2000). The major challenges faced are that the Australian tourism industry is suffering from the shortage of the workforce, rooms, hotels, investment, etc. this is the major drawback of the Australian tourism industry. There is a huge competition in the tourism sector and this competition is not only present on a national basis but also an international basis. The major competitors of the Australian tourism industry are Asian countries, European countries, etc. (Saurine, and Comau, 2012). It is also found that there is lack in the skilled labor in austral which is also a major disadvantage. The government of Australia had hired 3600, candidates in tourism sector of Australia. There are many small issues that are also barrier in the development o the Australian tourism industry like shortage of rooms for the travelers. According to new survey, there is a requirement of 40000 more beds so that the demand can be meet by the year 2020 (Douglas, and Derrett, 2001). The government is trying to make investment in the construction of more room and other infrastructure facility that can be provided to the tourists. There are basically three improvements that must be made in the Australian tourism industry that are rebuilt the infrastructure of hotel and restaurants, and boost the standards of services to cope up with the challenges and issues faced by the same. To set a competitive advantage against the competitors like china, Asian countries, Europe, etc, the country should adopt some new technique in their tourism sector (Mok, Sparks, and Kadampully, 2013). Sustainable growth and development of the country and the destinations where most of the tourist come is also a good option to attract more tourist in the country, it will give rise to the number of international tourist in the country. There is a need of another airport and dock in the Sydney as it the busiest airport of Australia. The restrictions to construct hotels are also a barrier in the development of the Australian tourism industry (Cooper, 2006). Conclusion At last we can conclude that the Australian tourism industry is one of the most prominent tourist industries of the entire world. It also plays a vital role in the economic development of the nation. Despite of all the issues and problems, the country is trying to enhance its tourism industry. Tourism industry is a major source of earning in a country like Australia as it contributes in the GDP of the country. The government of Australia is trying hard to remove the barriers that are creating issues in the growth and development of the tourism industry by investing money into the infrastructure of new hotels, development of destinations and location that are mostly visited by the tourist, development of airports and hocks so that traveling becomes easier for the passengers, etc. the government is showing good efforts in the development of the Australian tourism industry so that more tourist will get attract to it. It also helps curb the competition present in the touristy industries of other countries. References Cooper, C., 2006. Knowledge management and tourism. Annals of tourism research, 33(1), pp.47-64.
